COOPER, TX – On the evening of July 8, 2025, deputies with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office arrested 62-year-old Melanie Diane Slough for Criminal Trespass at the Cooper Methodist Church located at 200 SW 1st St.

Deputy M. Dancer responded to reports of a person allegedly trespassing and starting a fire near the rear of the church. Upon arrival, the deputy observed the subject actively lighting a fire. The suspect was quickly identified as Slough, who had previously been warned to stay off the church’s property following an earlier trespassing incident.

Slough became argumentative and refused to comply with verbal commands. She was then detained, double-locked in handcuffs, and secured in the patrol vehicle. After confirming the previous warning, Deputy Dancer placed Slough under arrest for violating Texas Penal Code 30.05(a) – Criminal Trespass.

According to the report, Slough was not cooperative during the encounter. She was transported without incident to the Delta County Jail.

This marks the second encounter deputies have had with Slough at the same location in recent days.
