HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — On August 8, 2025, a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper arrested Nathaniel Gabriel Tiggs, age 21, following a traffic stop on I‑30 westbound near Mile Marker 126 and the north service road. The stop occurred at approximately 7:22 a.m., with the arrest logged around 8:08 a.m.
According to the affidavit, Hopkins County communications broadcast a BOLO for a white Nissan Altima connected to a hit‑and‑run crash in Bowie County that reportedly caused over $200 in property damage. A Hopkins County constable located the vehicle and initiated the stop. The trooper noted the odor of marijuana coming from the car and observed recent damage on the right‑front area of the Altima.
A probable‑cause search followed. The trooper documented a green leafy substance, rolling/empty bags with residue consistent with marijuana, and a vape pen. Tiggs reportedly told the officer he may have fallen asleep while traveling through Bowie County and did not remember a crash. Field observations included a lack of convergence in the eyes, which officers note can be consistent with recent marijuana use.

The Altima was impounded by Benson Brothers Wrecker. Tiggs was transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Authorities indicated Bowie County is handling the separate hit‑and‑run investigation.
