SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX — On August 9, 2025, Sulphur Springs Police Department (SSPD) officers made a DWI arrest following a crash report that originated near the 100 block of E. Industrial Drive and led investigators to the 3300 block of TX Highway 11 East.
According to the affidavit, the crash victim told police the driver at fault appeared intoxicated, allowed a photo of his license, and then left before officers arrived. Corporal C. Hoffman (#208) located a matching pickup traveling toward Broadway Street and then onto Hwy 11 East. A traffic stop was conducted on the roadside a short time later at approximately 5:17 p.m.
During the stop, officers reported a strong odor of alcoholic beverage, watery and bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. Standardized field sobriety tests indicated multiple clues of impairment. The driver was identified as Jose C. Sanchez Romero, age 37. He was detained and later transported for a blood draw pursuant to a signed warrant after refusing breath and blood tests, the report states.
The pickup, a gray Dodge Ram 1500, was impounded by a local wrecker service. No injuries requiring transport were reported at the arrest scene.
