SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX — On August 9, 2025, Sulphur Springs Police Department officers responded to the Walmart on S. Broadway Street regarding a customer reportedly drinking alcohol on the property and possibly intoxicated.
According to the arrest affidavit, asset protection had the individual secured in a restroom area when officers arrived. Officers contacted the suspect, identified as Ian Joseph Short, age 35, and noted a strong odor of alcoholic beverage, slurred speech, and difficulty standing upright and walking. Asset protection reported locating multiple empty alcohol containers that had not been paid for. The total value of the unpaid and consumed items was $24.14, according to the report.
Short was taken into custody at approximately 4:37 p.m. and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Officers documented the investigation began around 4:16 p.m.
