Traffic Stop in Cooper Leads to 3 Arrests; K9 Unit Seizes 27 Ounces of Marijuana Delta County K9 Drug Seizure

COOPER, TX — On Friday, August 15, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a Delta County K9 Unit stopped a vehicle for speeding. As the deputy approached, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to officials.


Based on the odor, deputies conducted a probable-cause search and located just over 27 ounces of marijuana (under two pounds), a large amount of cash, and packaging materials consistent with drug delivery. Three occupants were arrested on State Jail Felony charges of Delivery of Marijuana (more than ¼ ounce, less than 5 pounds).


Arrested

  • Catherine Johnson, 19, of Mesquite
  • Kapricha Ladell, 19, of Clarksville
  • K’Aris Smallwood, 20, of Clarksville

All three suspects were transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Authorities report the suspects were arraigned and have posted bond pending trial.
