In the early morning hours of August 21, 2025, a Commerce Police officer observed a gold four‑door sedan hit a curb, swerve, and fail to maintain a single lane on State Highway 24. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated away, heading north on SH‑24.
The pursuit quickly left the city limits and continued into Delta County. Assistance was requested from Delta County and Lamar County authorities. According to Commerce Police, Lamar County deployed tire deflation devices that successfully punctured multiple tires.
Shortly after leaving the roadway near a tree line, a male and female fled on foot. Officers from Commerce PD, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety searched the area. A Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) K9 team also responded. Both individuals were located and taken into custody.
