Huntsville, TX – Blaine Milam, a man convicted in one of East Texas’s most disturbing child murder cases, was executed Thursday at 6:40 p.m. after the U.S. Supreme Court denied his final request for a stay. He was 34 years old.
Milam was sentenced to death in 2010 for the killing of his girlfriend’s 13-month-old daughter, Amora Carson, in December 2008. Prosecutors said the infant suffered horrific injuries over the course of 30 hours during what Milam and his then-girlfriend, Jesseca Carson, later described as an attempt to “remove demons” from the child through a self-proclaimed exorcism.
Authorities found the child’s body inside the couple’s East Texas residence. The autopsy revealed extensive trauma, including blunt-force injuries, bite marks, and evidence of sexual abuse. The number and severity of wounds made it impossible to determine a single cause of death, according to the medical examiner’s testimony.
Carson and Milam gave conflicting statements at first—claiming the child had ingested insulation or injured herself—before eventually admitting they attempted to rid the toddler of supposed demonic possession. Carson received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Over the years, Milam’s attorneys argued that he was intellectually disabled and should be exempt from execution under federal law. Multiple appeals were filed, and his execution was delayed in both 2019 and 2021 for courts to review new psychological evaluations. However, despite three experts supporting the disability claim, the courts ultimately ruled Milam did not meet the criteria and cleared the execution to proceed.
Milam declined the presence of a spiritual advisor during his final hours. His last meal included scrambled eggs, country gravy, biscuits, green beans, pinto beans, potatoes, sausage, sliced bread, tea, water, and a cheeseburger with pears on the side.
In a written final statement, Milam offered words of gratitude and spiritual reflection:
“I would like to give a special thanks to all of you for showing me kindness, compassion, empathy, love and support and believing in me… If any of you would like to see me again, I implore all of you no matter who you are to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and we will meet again. I love you all. Bring me home Jesus.”
The execution took place at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville. Milam becomes the latest individual to be executed by the state following a capital murder conviction involving a minor.
