COMMERCE, TX — Over the past two weeks, the Commerce Police Department and detectives have been hard at work recovering stolen items and pursuing suspects in several theft investigations across the city.
In four separate incidents, officers located stolen property and returned it to victims. In other instances, investigators identified suspects and either obtained warrants or made arrests.
On October 16, three individuals were apprehended following a theft from Walmart. Officers and detectives coordinated their efforts and intercepted the suspects as they were leaving the store. All stolen items were recovered.
Today, detectives are expanding their search into neighboring counties and have secured arrest warrants in one of the Ace Hardware theft cases.
The two suspects wanted in the Ace Hardware case are:
• Matthew Scott Cagle, age 40 — white male — wanted for felony theft.
• Seth Taylor Stapleton, age 36 — white male — also wanted on felony theft charges.
Both individuals already have outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. Residents are asked to remain vigilant and report sightings of them to law enforcement.
Chief Corley Weatherford thanked the public for their assistance in identifying suspects in the Ace Hardware case. Videos and photos shared by the department have been viewed more than 40,000 times, leading to key leads.
“It takes the entire team and our community working together to keep Commerce safe,” Chief Weatherford said. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.”
