Hunt County, TX — Two individuals have been taken into custody following a months-long missing person investigation that began earlier this year in Greenville and later expanded into rural Hunt County.

According to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began in June 2025 when the Greenville Police Department received a missing person report within the city limits of Greenville. The case was later referred to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office for continued investigation.

Over the following months, investigators with the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office worked alongside the Greenville Police Department and the Texas Rangers, conducting extensive follow-up and investigative efforts related to the disappearance.

On Wednesday, law enforcement activity was observed along FM 903 in the Wagner/Merit area. Following that activity, authorities confirmed that two individuals were arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Cassie Len Smith, born July 25, 1995, was arrested and booked into the Hunt County Jail on a charge of Tampering or Fabricating Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair a Human Corpse.

Samuel Rafael Rios, born July 13, 1995, was also arrested and booked into the Hunt County Jail on a charge of Capital Murder.

According to jail records, Rios lists the same address as Glen S. Cagel, the owner of the FM 903 property where recent law enforcement activity occurred. Authorities confirmed that Cagel has not been seen since June 2025. No additional details regarding that connection have been released at this time.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
