Two Arrested After Traffic Stop on I-30 in Hopkins County

Hopkins County, TX — Two individuals were taken into custody following a traffic stop on Interstate 30 that resulted in drug-related charges and multiple violations.

According to arrest affidavits, deputies with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling Interstate 30 near the 136-mile marker on December 27, 2025, when they observed a vehicle traveling well below the speed of surrounding traffic and failing to maintain proper lane positioning.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop after observing additional violations. While making contact with the occupants, officers reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Vehicle Search

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, deputies reportedly located suspected marijuana along with crushed, multi-colored pills that later tested positive for ecstasy.

Individuals Arrested

Carlandus A. Smith, age 38, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (PG2) under 4 grams

Tisha Patrice Harris, age 30, was also taken into custody and charged with:

  • Expired Vehicle Registration
  • Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility

Both individuals were transported to the Hopkins County Jail for booking. No injuries were reported.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
