Motorcycle Pursuit in Delta County Ends With Arrest of 18-Year-Old

Delta County, TX — A motorcycle pursuit in Delta County ended with an 18-year-old in custody after authorities reported speeds exceeding 100 mph.

According to arrest paperwork, Austin Bradley Payton, 18, was arrested on January 4, 2026 following a pursuit involving the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Pursuit Details

Investigators reported that deputies were alerted to a motorcycle evading DPS as it entered Delta County. Deputies later located the motorcycle traveling at speeds reported to be over 100 mph while weaving in and out of traffic.

Paperwork states multiple Delta County deputies joined the pursuit as it moved along State Highway 24 near the Cooper area. Authorities say the pursuit changed directions at one point before the rider continued to evade law enforcement.

The incident ended near the 5300 block area along State Highway 24, where officials reported the rider left the roadway and fled into nearby woods. DPS reportedly located the suspect, and he was taken into custody at approximately 3:20 p.m.

Charge

Payton was booked on the following charge:

  • Evading Arrest or Detention With a Vehicle

Records indicate the vehicle involved was a Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle. The case remains pending through the court process.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
