Cumby Woman Arrested After Investigation Leads to Seizure of Horses, Charge Filed for Animal Cruelty
A Cumby woman was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail following an investigation that authorities say involved the seizure of horses and the service of multiple warrants.
According to an arrest report and probable cause affidavit, the case involved investigators working alongside the Cumby Police Department and the USPCA. Officials reported that warrants were served in connection with an animal cruelty investigation and that horses were taken into custody as part of the process.
What Authorities Reported
The affidavit states that on January 12, 2026, investigators with the USPCA and Cumby Police made contact with Stacy Lynn Schmidt-Breneman, 52, to serve a seizure warrant related to horses, along with an arrest warrant tied to the investigation.
Records list the reported offense date as January 13, 2026, and show Schmidt-Breneman was taken into custody on January 14, 2026. Authorities stated she was transported to the Hopkins County Jail for booking, while the USPCA remained on scene to conduct the seizure of the animals.
