Hopkins/Wood County area — A 38-year-old Sulphur Springs-area woman was arrested after police say a crash investigation in Winnsboro showed signs of impairment and resulted in serious injuries to the other driver.

According to an arrest report and probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched to a major crash near the intersection of Posey Lane and Broadway Street in Winnsboro on the night of January 15, 2026.
Investigators identified the driver as Erica Rey Navarro, 38, who was reportedly operating a black Audi Q5. The affidavit states officers observed signs consistent with intoxication, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. The report also notes Navarro allegedly refused EMS evaluation at the scene and told officers she had been drinking.
Crash Investigation
Police allege Navarro crossed into oncoming traffic, causing a reported head-on collision. The affidavit states the driver of the other vehicle sustained serious bodily injury.
Arrest & Evidence Collection
Navarro was taken into custody and charged with Intoxication Assault (3rd Degree Felony), according to the report.
The affidavit states officers requested a blood specimen. After a refusal, investigators obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. Navarro was transported to a hospital for the blood specimen and was later booked into the Hopkins County Jail, according to the report.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
