Fannin County Sheriff Confirms Three Brothers Died After Falling Through Ice on Pond Near Bonham
Fannin County Sheriff Cody Shook confirmed that three young brothers died following a drowning incident on Monday after the children fell through ice on a private pond north of Bonham.
According to a statement released Tuesday morning by the sheriff’s office, the incident happened along Recreational Road #3. The children were 6, 8, and 9 years old.
What the Sheriff’s Office Reported
The sheriff’s office said the 8-year-old and 9-year-old were pulled from the water by the first arriving responders and a nearby resident. Life-saving efforts were started immediately before both children were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The 6-year-old did not resurface, authorities said, and was later recovered following an extensive search of the pond.
Officials did not release the children’s names.
Bonham ISD Response
Bonham Independent School District confirmed the children were all elementary students. In a letter to families, Superintendent Dr. Lance Hamlin expressed condolences and asked the community to respect the family’s privacy while they grieve.
Support services: The superintendent said school counselors will be available to meet with students and staff who need support.
