HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas – Three individuals were taken into custody Tuesday morning after a traffic stop near Como led deputies to the discovery of suspected drugs, stolen identifying information, and items described as criminal instruments.
According to an affidavit from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop on February 3, 2026, after directly observing a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the roadway.
During the stop, deputies reported detecting a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle recently. A probable-cause search was then conducted.
Investigators stated that two of the occupants were identified as juveniles who had been reported as runaways.
As a result of the search, deputies reported locating:
- 2.52 ounces of suspected marijuana
- 3.4 grams of suspected D-Amphetamine salt combo (Adderall)
- 7.0 grams of Acetaminophen/Codeine
- Debit cards and identifying information not belonging to any vehicle occupants
- Items described as criminal instruments, including a flathead screwdriver, walkie talkies, and gloves
The affidavit states that the identifying information belonged to a person who had previously been reported as the victim of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle case from a neighboring law enforcement agency.
All three occupants were placed under arrest at the scene.
Those Arrested
Diego Lee Childs Goodale, 18, was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 ≥1g <4g
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG4 <28g
- Possession of Marijuana ≥2oz <4oz
- Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information (more than 5 items)
- Possession of Criminal Instrument
Joseph Vernon Johnson, 20, was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 ≥1g <4g
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG4 <28g
- Possession of Marijuana ≥2oz <4oz
- Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information (more than 5 items)
- Possession of Criminal Instrument
A third occupant, identified as a juvenile, was also arrested on identical charges. That juvenile was transported to the Hopkins County juvenile detention center in accordance with standard procedures.
Both adult suspects were transported to the Hopkins County Jail for booking.
All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
