SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — A 26-year-old Michigan man was arrested in Sulphur Springs after police say a traffic stop on Interstate 30 led to the discovery of suspected marijuana.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by the Sulphur Springs Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop on February 8, 2026, after observing a moving violation on the eastbound side of I-30. During the contact, the officer reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The affidavit states the driver was identified as Jaden Deandre Smith, 26, of Michigan, and was reported to be without a valid driver’s license. Police said the occupants were removed from the vehicle while a probable-cause search was conducted.
During the search, officers reported locating multiple items of drug paraphernalia along with multiple bags of suspected marijuana. The affidavit states the occupants were read their Miranda warnings and advised of their rights, and Smith reportedly took sole responsibility for the marijuana inside the vehicle.
Smith was taken into custody, placed in handcuffs, and transported to the Hopkins County Jail for booking. The affidavit states the suspected marijuana was later weighed and determined to be over two ounces.
Smith was arrested on a charge of Possession of Marijuana more than 2 ounces but less than 4 ounces.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
