SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – Two Sulphur Springs residents were arrested early Monday morning after police responding to a reported disturbance discovered suspected methamphetamine inside a home where a young child was present.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by the Sulphur Springs Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Ingram Street on February 9, 2026, in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers reported observing what appeared to be marijuana in plain view inside the residence. During the course of the investigation, police say one of the occupants admitted to using narcotics.

The affidavit states that an officer later observed a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine after a bedroom drawer was opened. Investigators reported the drawer was approximately 12 inches tall and was accessible within the bedroom area.

Police also reported that a one-year-old child was inside the residence at the time. The affidavit states the child was seen walking freely in the home, and a baby crib was located in the same bedroom where the suspected drugs were discovered. Officers documented concerns that the contraband was within reach of the child.

The suspected substance was collected as evidence and weighed approximately 0.2 grams in its original packaging, according to the affidavit. Police say the material field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

As a result of the circumstances, investigators contacted Child Protective Services, and a CPS case was opened regarding the welfare of the child.
