Inmate Custody Death

On February 23, 2019 at approximately 11:15 a.m. Detention Officers were notified of an inmate in distress within the Hunt County Detention Center.

Detention Officers immediately checked the condition of the inmate and determined that he was having a medical emergency. Detention Officers immediately notified American Medical Response and began life saving techniques.

The inmate was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. The next of kin of the deceased was notified. Justice of the Peace Wayne Money performed the inquest and ordered an autopsy.

The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the inmate’s death.

Sheriff Meeks stated: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this very difficult time first and foremost. I am confident that the Texas Rangers will conduct a complete and thorough investigation into this case and they have our full cooperation”.
