Officer Involved Shooting In Bonham Over The Weekend

Around 8:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019, the Bonham Police Department was assisting the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office with executing a narcotics search warrant at a residence in Bonham. At one point, Officers’ attention was drawn to a vehicle leaving the area in a reckless manner. A Bonham Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the departting vehicle; however, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit lasted about two miles before the driver pulled into his place of residence on Spur 311 in Bonham. Two Bonham Police Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The driver was given verbal commands to keep his hands in the air. The officers continued to give verbal commands to the driver to keep his hands in the air, but the driver ignored these commands and made a furtive movement, resulting in an officer discharging their handgun, striking the driver multiple times. The officers immediately began to administer medical aid to the driver. The driver was subsequently air lifted to a hospital in Plano. The Texas Rangers were requested to conduct an investigation into the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
