SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – A routine traffic stop in Sulphur Springs led to the arrest of a local man on drug-related charges late Monday night.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dewayne Miller Johnson, 25. According to reports, Johnson was pulled over at approximately 10:57 PM near the 300 block of League Street. During the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Johnson, admitted to having marijuana in his pocket. Officers then inquired if he had any other illegal substances, to which he responded that he had a methamphetamine pipe in his shirt pocket. The pipe contained a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Johnson admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier in the day. He was immediately placed in double-locked handcuffs and taken into custody. Law enforcement officers transported him to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Authorities urge the community to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
