April 9, 2025 | Sulphur Springs, TX

On the night of April 8, Sulphur Springs Police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a woman acting erratically inside a local hospital.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Kiesa Dawn Birstein of Sulphur Springs, was reportedly seen running through the hospital’s hallways and even entering patient rooms, alarming staff and other patients. According to hospital personnel, she was shouting incoherently and appeared to be in a highly disturbed state.

Before police arrived, Birstein exited the hospital and was located in the roadway nearby. Officers quickly made contact with her and reported that she appeared disoriented and paranoid. She allegedly told officers that people were trying to shoot her and that they were coming through the walls.

When questioned further, Birstein admitted to using methamphetamines. She also claimed she had not taken any other illegal drugs outside of her prescribed medications. Officers determined that she posed a danger to herself and the public due to her intoxicated state.

Birstein was placed under arrest and transported to the Hopkins County Jail without further incident. She was charged with Public Intoxication.

No additional injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the incident.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
