WOOD COUNTY, TX — A tragic accident claimed the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer on the morning of April 9, 2025.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy Melissa Pollard was involved in a fatal motor vehicle collision with a semi while on duty. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Wood County, and emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene.
Deputy Pollard was transported to UT Health Hospital in Quitman, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Texas Department of Public Safety is currently overseeing the investigation into the fatal crash.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has expressed deep sorrow over the loss and is requesting the public to keep Deputy Pollard’s family, friends, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning.
