While Deputies were responding it was learned that the suspect had fled the scene on foot and was currently at large. American Medical Response and patrol deputies made scene and attempted life saving measures on the victim, however their attempts were unsuccessful. The victim Michael Anthony Fluellen, 59 year old resident of Neylandville, was pronounced deceased at the scene. An immediate search was conducted for the suspect in the shooting and as additional help was arriving to the scene first responders reported that a subject was standing in a field on an adjacent property. Deputies began a search of this area and the suspect was located and detained without incident. Based upon information obtained during the course of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division the suspect was arrested on the charge of murder and transported to the Hunt County Detention Center. The suspect’s identity is not being released pending arraignment. Justice of the Peace Sheila Linden performed the inquest and ordered an autopsy be performed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sheriff Meeks stated: “I want to commend all the deputies and first responders for working together on this case to make sure the suspect was located a short time after the murder was committed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time”.
